The Program
Rx for Healthy Kids

Children who begin the program in Phases I, II or III are started on a medically supervised diet. In Phase IV, children are placed on a maintenance diet. Both diets are supplemented with extra fluids, vitamins and minerals.

In addition to the medical monitoring, body measurements including height, weight, calculation of overweight and fat percentages are made on the children at the time they start the program and quarterly thereafter.

Children also receive an exercise prescription, called MPEP® (Moderate Intensity Progressive Exercise program). Designed specifically for overweight children, it includes strength, flexibility, and aerobic training presented in user-friendly videos and educational materials. MPEP® emphasizes methods for increasing daily activity and for improving body-movement awareness through safe, properly designed exercise techniques.

But there is more to Committed to Kids® than diet and exercise. Behavior that includes over-eating is often a result of emotional distress such as low self-esteem and depression. Through weekly sessions dealing with the psychological aspects of childhood obesity, children, their parents and siblings can discuss their feelings in a cheerful and supportive atmosphere. At the same time, they can share their diet and exercise experiences and successes, hints, discoveries, and encouragement.
